Nike
My favorite pair of shoes? My all-black Nikes. I’ve had them for years, and they are the most comfortable shoes I own. They’re my go-to for everyday wear. Mostly because black goes with everything, and I live in black all day every day. Comfort is everything to me. I like things that feel familiar, things I can rely on day after day. They are shoes that remain right outside my closet and ready to go for my next outing.
These shoes have carried me across the world. I traveled to Israel on my Birthright trip in 2019, and they were with me every step of the way. We did a lot of walking tours, some strenuous hikes, and uneven cobblestone streets. Not to mention the fact that we did a nighttime walk to a special spot to view the stars. We had to walk on rocks the whole way to get there. It was incredibly dark, we couldn’t use flashlights, and I’m surprised I didn’t trip and fall. My friend sadly did in fact. I can’t imagine having worn anything else. If I had, I doubt I would’ve lasted long.
My Nikes never caused me pain or discomfort. I’ll admit they have one major flaw. They are not water-resistant. Rain, water rides, or unexpected puddles? Forget about it. There’s nothing worse than soggy shoes and drenched socks.
They’ve also powered me through your typical marathon-like days at Disneyland. A place where walking 20,000 steps is just another part of the experience. Theme parks mean endless standing, long lines, and barely any time to rest. Sure, you get a brief break while eating. But after a while, my feet start to swell. That familiar heaviness sets in. Yet, my Nikes have always kept me going.
Shoes may seem like a simple thing, but they play a bigger role than we realize. They provide stability, balance, and endurance. In many ways, they’re a metaphor for life itself. No matter where they take you, the key is to keep moving forward. So, keep walking, and keep chasing your dreams…comfortably.
“Comfortable shoes and the freedom to leave are the two most important things in life.”
Shel Silverstein
