Improving Our Community: A Vision for a Better Los Angeles
I live in the city Los Angeles, CA, an area that provides endless opportunities. But behind the lens, there is a community that faces many difficult challenges. Homelessness is on the rise, rather awful air pollution, lack of accessible healthcare, and stray animals in need of rescue. If I had the chance, I would take this opportunity to make a difference.
It’s heartbreaking to see the realities of LA in the growing homelessness crisis. It’s hard to walk down the street and see tents lined up under freeways. It’s also hard to drive and see tents at the parks, or by the wash. It’s difficult to see those people without food, shelter, and support. Instead of turning your back to it, I believe we should try to find real solutions.
Mental healthcare is crucial, especially among the homeless population because it is often the root cause. Finding the right mental health support in LA is a struggle. The city is overpopulated, and too many people stuck waiting months for an appointment, or searching for affordable care.
We need more accessibility. We also need better insurance options. Additionally, more education and resources are necessary in schools and workplaces. Individuals struggling intently on the streets need support too. If people had the necessary tools they needed, whether it’s therapy, medications, or just a support group. It could prevent more and more people from spiraling out of control.
Cleaning up the neighborhood is essential too. The streets are filled with litter, abandoned furniture, and neglected areas make the city look less than glamorous. If we dedicated some time and effort into cleaning up our streets, we would be more prideful of our environment.
I’m most sympathetic to the countless stray animals roaming the streets hungry, scared and in need of care. I personally would like to volunteer and advocate for stronger welfare to ensure that every pet has a loving home. No one truly deserves it more in my opinion. I feel and care for animals so deeply.
Improving our community is about creating a better and safer living environment. We can greatly help by picking up trash we see. We can donate or volunteer at a shelter. It’s important to advocate for mental health services. Additionally, rescuing an animal can make a difference. It’s all about taking action by doing small steps to achieve big changes.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
