A Letter to My Mom: For Mother’s Day and Every Day

Dear Mom,

There aren’t enough words to ever express what you truly mean to me.  But today, I’m going to try to convey the beauty that is you.

From the very beginning, you were my comfort. My safe place. You were the steady hand I always grabbed on to in times of joy and uncertainty.  The person who made me feel okay when I was sick, overwhelmed, or hurting in some way. You’d rub my head and tell me that all will be fine.  I remember you saying, “There’s nothing like a mother’s love,” and I see that now more than ever.

You taught me how to be strong, how to fight for what’s right, and how to love unconditionally. You always showed up for me.  I remember spending time together studying for my spelling tests. Going out to the mall, grabbing lunch, and ice cream afterwards. The endless time spent together laughing, and holding each other. I never take any of those precious moments for granted.

You gave me more than I could ever understand when I was younger.  I see it now.  The nights you stayed up worrying about things.  The sacrifices you’ve made.  You loved me through every version of myself—awkward, rebellious, lost, and everything in between.  You never asked me to be anything but me, and for that I’m eternally grateful. You told me to follow my dreams, and I’ve kept that promise.

I know I don’t always say it, but I’m so lucky.  Thank you for the hearty meals at night, the poached eggs in the morning, and playing a hand of cards with me before school.  I’ll forever cherish the vast number of memories I hold deep in my heart.

Thank you for your strength, your sternness, and above all, your love.  Thank you for showing me how to keep going, how to be tough and fight the hard battles.  You’re my rock, my anchor, and my heart.

I hope you feel love today, and every day.  Just know how deeply you are loved, respected, and appreciated.  You deserve the world, and I’ll do everything in my power now to take care of you the way you did with me.  I’ll hold your hand through every tough moment and be your support.

I love you endlessly. To infinity and beyond!

Happy Mother’s Day.

With all of my heart,

Nicole.
