The Power to Heal: A Gift I Wish I Had

Daily writing prompt
What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?

If I could have any ability, it would be the power to heal. Not just for minor aches and pains, but the deeper wounds. The mental and physical ones that burden so many of us. I wish I had the magic within me to mend what doctors cannot. I want to ease suffering without relying on a system I don’t fully trust.

The healthcare industry has some professionals who genuinely care about their patients. But for me, this is a rarity.  I’ve seen to many doctors firsthand brush off their patients with the flick of the wrist.  They provide minimal support and generally lack overall compassion and empathy. My hope would be to give my loved ones the peace and strength that they deserve.

For me, healing isn’t just about curing an illness or stopping pain. It’s about restoring hope, resilience, and dignity to those who have been through too much. My mom, for example, has spent her life being shuffled between doctors. It seems her body is owned by a medical system that often feels impersonal and flawed. I see her exhaustion, her frustration, and the way her strength is constantly tested. If I had the power, I wouldn’t hesitate. I would take her pain into my hands and make it disappear.

The world is filled with suffering, and while medicine and therapy have their place, they often fall short. There are illnesses with no cure. Trauma can linger for a lifetime. Emotional wounds may never seem to fully heal. But if I had this ability, I would be the one to rewrite those fates. I’d erase the suffering of those drowning in depression, trapped by anxiety, or lost in chronic pain. I would bring relief to those who feel like they have nowhere left to turn.

I believe healing is the most powerful gift anyone could possess. It’s not just about fixing what’s broken—it’s about giving people back their strength, joy, and freedom. The ability to truly heal would mean giving people a second chance. It offers a new beginning without the weight of their past burdens.

I don’t have this power. I do what I can in my own way. This includes offering kindness, understanding, and support to those around me. Sometimes, just listening, advocating, or being present can bring a small sense of healing. But if I could dream, if I could have just one extraordinary gift, it would be the ability to heal. I would eliminate suffering. I wish to bring light back into the lives of those who need it most.

“Healing may not be a superpower, but kindness, love, and understanding can mend wounds medicine cannot.”
