Embrace Your Strengths: 5 Things I’m Good At

Daily writing prompt
Share five things you’re good at.

Why is it so effortless to list the things we struggle with… yet so uncomfortable to name the things we’re actually good at?

For so long, I didn’t think I was good at anything — not one single thing.  I’d focus on my flaws, my mistakes, the ways I felt behind everyone else.  But over time, I began to notice the strengths I carry.  The ones that come naturally to me, even when I don’t give myself credit for them.  And acknowledging those strengths has changed how I view myself.  I respect myself more.  I see the qualities in me that are powerful, unique, and worth celebrating.

So today, I’m practicing something that still feels a little vulnerable: naming what I do well, and owning it.

Here are five things I’m good at:

I’m good at listening

Even with my forgetfulness and my inability to focus sometimes, I’m still a great listener.  Making someone feel seen fully is something that has always come naturally to me.  It could be because of my sensitivity, or maybe it’s intuition, either way, I’m grateful for it.  When people speak to me and are able to confide in me, I hear more than just their words.  I hear their emotions, their fears, and the things they wish they could say.  And I hold that trust.

I’m good at offering support and heartfelt advice

I’ve always been the friend that others go to for advice.  Quite frankly, I love being that person.  It makes me feel wanted, needed even.  I might not always have the perfect solutions, but I do offer advice that’s heartfelt and honest. I think people see kindness and familiarity in me, and that they feel comfortable opening up and letting their guard down.  I’m grateful that people find that with me.

I’m good at cooking

Food is definitely my love language.  I find so much joy in creating meals that make people feel comforted and cared for.  Maybe it’s because I grew in a family that always told me food is love, or maybe it’s the many years of watching cooking shows, either way, I’m glad to be good at it.   Food is inspiring.  There are so many different creations you can do, it’s endless.  I love experimenting as well as sticking to old comfort classics.

I’m good at expressing emotions

I’m highly emotional person.  For years, I thought my deep feelings were a burden to bear, but now, I’m starting to appreciate how I express my emotions.  They help me write stories that resonate with others, share truths that others relate to, and connect through vulnerability.  I never thought that my voice mattered, but I’ve realized just how much it needs to be heard.

Seeing patterns and reading people

This is something that I never give myself credit for.  My intuition has always been sharp.  I pick up on people’s moods, their energy, and the unspoken things that they’re feeling.  I notice patterns in behavior, in dynamics, and in emotions long before others do.  I always thought that this made me too sensitive, but now I see it as a gift.  It helps me connect, understand, and be more aware, compassionate, quiet and persistent.

What are five things you’re good at? I’d love to hear!

“You are made of quiet brilliance. Don’t overlook your own light.”
