Three Essential Objects I Can’t Live Without
There are many things I value in my life such as family, my friends, and my precious dog. These are things that I will never take for granted. It’s somewhat difficult for me to narrow down just three objects. Mine sound a little crazy to some. Still, they are objects I can’t live without. We all have those items we carry with us every day. However, my phone, sunglasses, and lip balm are necessities for me. They bring me comfort, convenience, and a sense of security.
1. My Phone
Let’s face it, today it’s near impossible to live without your phone. I do recall a time before cell phones, and just when the PC craze began. It’s my lifeline to connections from the outer world. It allows me to stay in touch with loved ones. I can easily access information, and it provides pure entertainment when I need a break. More importantly, it’s my go-to, in case of emergencies.
As someone who likes to disengage from my surroundings, scrolling through my phone can be a genuine comfort. All my movies and shows, music, photos and videos are stored there. I like knowing I have access to practically everything right at my fingertips. I can navigate to a different location with ease. I can order food delivered straight to my door. I can simply set reminders for myself since I’m a very forgetful person. It’s a magnificent device that I’m sure we all can agree is essential to our daily lives.
2. My Sunglasses
Sunlight and I have had a complicated relationship from the get-go. Being autistic, I’m very sensitive to bright lights, and direct sunlight hits me like a ton of bricks. The moment my eyes meet the rays of sunshine; it’s an automatic squint that nearly hurts. I can barely keep them open. I tear up as well from the extreme intensity which leads me to feel very overwhelmed. My sunglasses help shield my eyes from the heavy glare.
They need to be very well tinted, because even with them on, I still squint. Regardless, they help me navigate the world with ease, and without them my vision is strained. It’s very difficult for me to focus. They are not just an accessory to me; they are vital for my overall well-being. Also, a plus is that my eyes stay hidden. I don’t feel the need or pressure to make unnecessary eye-contact with others.
3. My Lip Balm
It seems rather strange, but chapped lips are the bane of my existence. My lips have the tendency to dry out easily. When I’m without it, I’m in a constant state of discomfort. With the recent windy weather here in Los Angeles, it has made it even worse. My lips feel raw, and it’s like a burning sensation that occurs. I always must have lip balm handy because of the painful irritation. It ensures that my lips get moisture and heal.
Yes, these are simple items, and though they may not seem much they make a world of difference for me. These three simple items might not seem like much, but they make a world of difference in my daily life. My phone allows me to connect and disconnect with people. My sunglasses help with my light sensitivity. My lip balm is also vital for me to have.
Basically, I can’t live without my purse. It holds everything I hold dear and never leaves my side. It’s my source of comfort, and funny enough, is featured in nearly every photo I take. It’s like a security blanket. These are just items, but I simply can’t live without them.
It’s not the things we have, but the meaning we attach to them that matters.”
