There Are Some Things You Can’t Rush

I’ve never been very good at waiting. I’m the most impatient person I know. I like knowing what’s going to happen, where I’m going, what comes next, and how long something is going to take. When I want something, I usually want it immediately.

The older I’ve gotten, the more I realize that there are some things you simply can’t rush.

I’ve learned that you can’t rush healing. You can’t rush becoming comfortable with yourself. You can’t rush finding the right people or figuring out what you actually want from your life.

And even though it’s frustrating sometimes, you just have to let things take the time they need.

I’ve always struggled with feeling like I’m behind. So often, I see other people advancing in areas where I feel like I should belong as well. But I just haven’t been able to have what they have. And quite frankly, I can’t help but feel jealous sometimes.

I’ll think, Why do they get what they want? Why can’t I get that? Am I not as deserving?

I can’t help but be hard on myself for not having the things others have. The things that I truly want deep down.

I want a relationship with someone that’s lasting. Someone who will love me for all that I am. Someone to walk through life with. I’m tired of feeling lonely and being alone.

I want a successful career. Something that I truly love doing. If I could make my blog a full-time job, I absolutely would. I like being my own boss, and maybe that’s part of the problem.

Those are just a few of the things I want that other people seem to have easily obtained.

For a long time, I’ve let my insecurities convince me that these things haven’t happened because there’s something wrong with me. I’ve wondered if I’m not doing enough, if I’m not confident enough, or if I’m somehow falling behind everyone else.

But now, I’m growing in ways I never thought possible. I’m starting to see that my timeline doesn’t need to match everyone else’s. Just because something hasn’t happened for me yet doesn’t mean it never will.

That’s what helps me hold on. The thought that with patience and time, some of the things I want may eventually come to fruition.

I think we sometimes try to rush ourselves into being ready for things we aren’t ready for yet. We tell ourselves we should be over something, more confident, less afraid, or further along.

But being ready isn’t always something we can force.

Sometimes we need more time to understand what happened to us or what we actually want. Sometimes we have to experience something a few different ways before it finally makes sense.

Lately, I’ve been noticing a change within myself. It’s nothing major, just little things that have helped me along my healing journey.

I’m truly starting to become more confident in myself and more in tune with who I am. I might not have a clear direction or path figured out yet, but I’m taking things one step at a time. And if I make even one small improvement, I’m more than proud of myself.

I’m also trying not to let things get to me that would have made me feel less than in the past. I’m starting to look at myself through a different lens, and for the first time, it feels a little clearer.

Maybe that’s part of growing, too. Not suddenly having everything figured out, but slowly learning to see yourself differently.

I’ve learned that I don’t need to know exactly when or how I’ll get there. I don’t need to have every answer. I can take the next step and let the rest unfold as it does.

That doesn’t mean I won’t get impatient. I know myself well enough to know I probably will.

But I’m trying to be a little more patient with my own life.

Maybe some things aren’t late. Maybe they’re just taking the time they need.

And maybe some things are worth waiting for.

What is something in your life that you’re learning to be more patient with?
