Why Live Music Matters: My Linkin Park Experience
For me, it was Linkin Park. I’ve been obsessed with the band since they dropped their debut album Hybrid Theory back in 2000. I instantly feel in love with Chester Bennington’s voice. Yes, he screamed, but it was poetic, raw, and emotional in a way that hit me deeply. To this day, he remains my all-time favorite artist.
Chester struggled immensely with depression, and in 2017, he died by suicide. My heart shattered. I couldn’t believe I’d never hear his voice live again. I’d never get the chance to see him perform. To me, he was the heart and soul of the band. And his memory will never fade.
Their music resonated with me so much. I remember the first time I heard the song, “Crawling,” and I felt so incredibly seen. I immediately purchased the album and was mesmerized by every song. The emotions behind it, every lyric meant something to me. As an autistic person, I use their music as comfort. I listen to it every single day. It makes me feel better in times of sorrow and doubt.
But fast forward to 2024—Linkin Park made a comeback. They introduced a new lead singer. At first, I was skeptical. She felt like an unusual choice, but over time, her voice grew on me. I respected her for taking on such a heavy legacy. And honestly, their new music still echoes that original sound I fell in love with.
Even though Chester’s absence still hurts, I was thrilled to see my favorite band on stage again. I wanted to scream the lyrics to all the old songs, sing until I cried, and feel that same energy that once meant everything to me.
I’m glad they chose to keep going after all these years. I even bought a ticket to see them again this September—and I genuinely can’t wait.
Live music is healing. It’s one of the few things in life that feels both grounding and electric at the same time. Yes, concerts are expensive these days, but the experience is worth every penny. Life is short. I want more moments like that—more music, more memories.
