Sometimes I Just Need to Disappear for a Little While
Today, I found myself needing to escape the confines of my mind.
The moment I woke up, I felt this heaviness on my chest and an ache in my heart. I couldn’t seem to get up. I didn’t want to. All I wanted to do was stay in bed and go back to sleep in hopes of waking up in a better mood. But I had things I needed to do, so I didn’t have a choice.
I just couldn’t shake the feeling. The hard part about it all is that I knew I probably wouldn’t be able to get rid of it. I’d already convinced myself that my day was ruined. My mood was locked in, and all I could see was no way out of it.
I tried to calm myself down and do things that usually bring me comfort. I bought an iced coffee and took a moment alone to try and gather myself before being around other people. In moments when I’m incredibly stressed out or overwhelmed, I need to be alone in order to put myself at ease. It’s the only way for me personally to sort through things and pull myself out of whatever hole I’m in. I can’t force myself to be around people when I’m feeling overwhelmed.
I just always feel the need to disappear, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. We all have different limits, different ways of recharging, and different amounts of time and energy to give to other people.
I’m just the type of person who needs a little more time when I don’t have to think about anything outside of my own little world.
Sometimes I Just Need Everyone to Leave Me Alone

There are days when I simply don’t want to talk. I don’t want to make plans, explain how I’m feeling, or feel like I need to be available to anyone.
Sometimes, I just don’t have the energy to interact with people. For me, a simple conversation can feel too exhausting when I’m already dealing with everything going on inside my head.
Being around people can drain me very easily, and there are times when I just don’t feel like engaging. I don’t want to respond or explain why I’m quiet or why I don’t feel like going somewhere. I just want to step away without having to make a big deal out of it.
If people are around when I’m in one of these moods, I’m uncertain of my emotional reactions and how others might interpret them. I try so hard to stay calm, but there’s always something inside of me that’s desperate to get out. And more often than not, it’s anger and frustration from everything that I’m dealing with.
I don’t want people to see that side of me. But it’s a response that I can’t always control. I hold in a lot of my feelings most of the time, and when one thing happens to me, whether big or small, I just explode with an outpouring of emotions.
So, I generally just need a break from interacting with people when I’m feeling on edge.
Finding My Own Little Escape

When I feel this way, I gravitate towards things that are comforting and familiar. I like being home and having my space to do what makes me happy. Watching a movie I’ve seen dozens of times before. Cuddling with my dog. Writing on my computer. Making something to eat. Just things that help me feel like myself again.
Even when my thoughts are all over the place, there’s something about being home and having the freedom to do what I want.
I definitely enjoy going places and spending time with people, but once I’m home, I’m ready to settle back into my own routine.
I think that’s why today felt even more off: I skipped my morning routine. When things in my routine are disrupted, I have a hard time accepting that. So, it further increases my anxiety and nerves throughout the day.
I don’t think I fully appreciate how much I need that familiarity until I’ve been away from it for a while.
I Don’t Always Have an Explanation

I think one of the harder things about having days like this is not always knowing what to do with them.
Sometimes I can identify what’s bothering me. Other times, I just wake up feeling off. There’s no obvious explanation, no single thing I can point to, and no quick fix that will suddenly make everything feel better.
I can try to distract myself, get out of the house, or do something I normally enjoy. Sometimes it helps. Other times, I still feel exactly the same way.
And I think that’s something I’ve had to accept. I can’t always talk myself out of a mood or force myself to feel differently just because I have things to do.
I don’t like feeling this way, and I certainly don’t want to spend my day thinking about everything that’s bothering me. But sometimes, that’s where I find myself.
Sometimes I Just Need to Disappear for a Little While

Sometimes, I need to just pull back. I need time when nobody expects anything from me, when I don’t have to explain anything and I can just be in my own space.
It doesn’t mean that I don’t want people in my life; it just means that I need a little distance from everything happening around me.
I know that being alone doesn’t always make things easier, and that my thoughts don’t just magically disappear because I’m home and away from everyone else. Sometimes, they’re still there, and I have to figure out how to get through the day with them.
Sometimes, I just want to be left alone because that’s all I have the energy for.
What do you need to step away from when everything starts to feel like too much?
