The Life You Couldn’t See Yet Was Waiting for You

Daily writing prompt
If your future self could send you one sentence, what do you hope it would say?

The life you couldn’t see yet was waiting for you.

I really like this sentence because there have been so many moments in my life when I couldn’t imagine anything beyond what was happening right then.

I remember going through a period of heavy depression, and while I was in it, I couldn’t see a way to escape it. It was a constant feeling of hopelessness. I couldn’t picture my life getting any better. I was beyond just stuck—I was immovable.

At the time, I just couldn’t see what would come next. I only knew what was happening right in front of me.

I think that’s how life often works. We want to know where we’re going. We want to know how things will turn out, whether we’ll get the things we’re hoping for, and whether the life we’re imagining is actually possible.

One thing I do know is that we can’t see everything from where we’re standing.

There are places I haven’t been yet. Experiences I haven’t had. People I haven’t met. Memories I haven’t made. There are probably versions of myself I haven’t even imagined yet.

I think that’s the comforting part. Just because I can’t see something doesn’t mean it isn’t coming.

I want to leave a little room in my life for it to surprise me because I’ve already lived through moments I once couldn’t imagine getting past. I’ve already become someone my younger self wouldn’t have predicted.

I believe that the life I’m hoping for isn’t as far away as it feels. It’s all simply unfolding right now before my eyes.

Someday, when I look back at this version of myself, I’ll understand what I can’t see right now:

The life you couldn’t see yet was waiting for you.

What is something you couldn’t see coming that became an important part of your life?
